Painting Country, on Country, with Country.

Capturing the unique energy of each place by immersing myself in its land and water.

Working on location, I like to gather tokens from the surroundings. Things like sand, water and stone - to infuse the land's textures, it's rawness and little intricacies into the art. Through this process I honour the spirit of the land, blending its energy and essence with my hands to create works that are deeply connected to the places that inspire them.

Meet the Artist

Dean Gregory

As an artist, my aim is to create aerial seascapes on slabs of wood.

I focus on capturing what makes each beach a unique individual.

I understand the emotional significance and connection individuals have with certain beaches, because I have these too.

There's beaches that remind me of being nine years old,

and beaches that remind me of being seventeen.

There's beaches that remind me of good times,

and beaches that hurt to be reminded of.

It's the beaches that remind us of love and joy that I'm here to capture.

A visual reminder of all that's good in the world.

Each piece incorporates natural elements. I like to use sand and rocks sourced directly from the beaches that I'm painting, or shells to imprint patterns. Sometimes a little bit of the saltwater reacts perfectly to create intricate patterns found in nature. It's important to me that the colours and textures are a true reflection of the landscape.

It's a special art piece whenever I'm able to paint it while at that place. "Painting Country, on country, with country" is something I said one day that concisely sums up my art.
